An Uncluttered Life: Making Room for the Holy

April 26 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Our lives are overflowing with stuff. Professional organizer Peter Walsh says, “Clutter is anything that gets between you and the life you want to be living.” Looking at our stuff through the lens of spirituality can help us let go of the excess and make room for the holy. Letting go of the clutter can give us more room to breathe and more time to spend with God or work on our passion projects. We’ll discuss what clutter is, how to get rid of the excess, how to curate what we keep, how to keep clutter from entering our lives, and what we want our lives to be. The retreat will be part discussion and part prayer/journaling exercises. The retreat will be led by Suzanne Gorhau, a pastor, college instructor, and retreat leader. She is a minimalist who lives with a maximalist.

Testimonials from congregational members who previously attended:

On the surface, my home looks clean and neat but open drawers, cabinets, closets, and storage areas and you find a much different reality. My physical world is cluttered, my mind feels unsettled, and I needed a solution. Suzanne’s retreat helped me understand the clutter in my life and gave me solutions and resources to get my stuff under control. Most importantly, I’ve learned that there are ways to keep my memories and share them with my kids and grandkids while eliminating things that no longer serve us well. I’m now tackling my cluttered life with much more confidence and it feels great!” – Julie Reeks

“Taking the Uncluttered Life class really got me motivated to do some cleaning and organizing around my home!! So far I have cleaned out and organized my bedroom closet and dresser including getting clothes bins to help me keep my many hoodies and sweaters contained and organized. I also spent about 3 hours deep cleaning the laundry room including vacuuming and scrubbing ALL the lint off the floors and wiped down the many surfaces.” – Paula Bouckhuyt

“I learned CLUTTER might be ‘stuff’ or it might be the ‘things to do’ on my calendar! I have lots of both! I am working harder to make time to be with my family.” – Carol Rudesill
