The Nebraska Family Helpline at (888) 866-8660​​ can connect families to a wide variety of resources, including behavioral health. They provide a single contact point 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can make recommendations or referrals to appropriate resources, including emergency resources.

Speaker Information

Sadie Hinkel

Sadie Hinkel is the Program Director at The Kim Foundation, an Omaha-based
nonprofit that serves as a supportive resource and compassionate voice for lives
touched by mental illness and suicide. Sadie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English
Education from Morningside University and her Master’s Degree in Writing from Coastal
Carolina University. Before working with The Kim Foundation, Sadie worked as a high
school English teacher, where she realized her passion for advocating for mental health
education and awareness. She currently manages events for the foundation, oversees
programming and outreach efforts, and educates community members on topics
involving mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

Maggie Ballard

Maggie Ballard has worked in substance abuse prevention at Heartland Family Service for over nine years and is also the legislative liaison for her agency. She graduated from UNO with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, went to grad school in 2019 and earned a Certificate in Public Management, and is a Certified Prevention Specialist in the State of Iowa. Maggie is the President of Nebraskans For Peace, serves on the Foster Care Review Board, the Racial Justice Committee of the Reentry Alliance of Nebraska, and is passionate about preventing addiction. Having grown up as a PK or Pastor’s Kid, Maggie is excited to share information with the faith community.

Dr. Juvet Che

Dr. Che’s medical experience spans more than a decade. He received his undergraduate degree in biology at Grambling State University and his doctor of medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he also completed an internship in internal medicine. After working as a primary care physician for several years, he decided to pursue psychiatry and joined the Creighton/UNMC Psychiatry Residency Program, crossing paths with Community Alliance for the first time five years ago.

Marti Finkel

Marti Finkel is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC). She received her Bachelor’s of Arts at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and she received her Master’s of Social Work at the University of Chicago. She been working in the mental health field for over 15 years. Marti has worked in a variety of settings to include: adolescent residential care, outpatient therapy serving dually diagnosed adults and adolescents. Her counseling experience ranges from treating adults, adolescents and families. She also has experience in working with the older adult population. One of her specialty areas is substance abuse. Marti provides substance abuse evaluations and recommendations. Marti is also trained in EMDR Therapy. She offers a personalized approach to her clients to assist them in meeting their individual goals.

Jude Connelly

Jude Connelly is a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). He received a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Creighton University. With a specialization in children, youth, and families, Jude also has a Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. Jude has worked in a variety of settings including: in-home, outpatient, and psychiatric residential centers. He has also served as Clinical Director for a variety of mental health programs serving families. Jude specializes in helping adolescents and adults recover from past trauma. Jude’s approach to therapy centers on the person and their unique circumstances with the goal of instilling hope for a brighter future. Working with clients suffering from anxiety and depression are also areas of specialty. 

Betsy Mayfield

Betsy Mayfield is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). She has worked in the mental health and substance abuse field for over a decade. Throughout her career, she has worked in an inpatient facility and an outpatient non-profit organization specializing in mental health and substance abuse.


Betsy received her Bachelors of Science in 1999 and received her Masters of Science in Community Counseling in 2007 from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. In 2015, she furthered her interest in the Department of Transportation substance abuse field by becoming a Substance Abuse Professional.

Betsy’s passion is assisting adults on their personal journey towards change, leading them to enhance their quality of life. Betsy works with individuals and/or couples to help them identify their strengths and skills. She is a Gottman trained therapist and is trained in EMDR Therapy. One of her areas of specialty is working in the field of addictions. Betsy offers substance abuse evaluations and individual treatment for those recommended to attend individual outpatient substance abuse treatment. She also provides SAP/DOT evaluations and treatment for those that have encountered substance abuse issues jeopardizing their employment.
